Universal Suffrage
I feel ashamed tat I didnt go for the demonstration today re Universal Suffrage for Legco n CE 2007/08 (tat's another story am going to write abt)... even more surprising to me is: (1) ANSON CHAN IS IN THE MARCH!!!!! (2)sth like 250,000 ppl go for the march, as reported by the organizers (forgot abt these number games by police), tat stunned me as i tot 100,000 is quite some ppl already.
Turned out to be a surprise, i tot i always cant think 'out-of-the-box' -- at the time the govt is promulgating this Report No.5 on 'District Council Proposal', i tot maybe its a dilemma for the Democrats, and anyhow they shd accept it first, so as to avoid a 'loss-loss' situation for em and causes a future decline in their popularity, which is esp. impt at the current seemingly-low popularity of the Dem. Party as they r slowly losing grounds to other pro-democracy camps or even DABs; and also a veto in this Political Reform would 100% be blamed on the Democrats. This has somehow to be like the "Chicken Race" in Games Theory i studied in my political science class - the govt / the demos r in a truth-or-dare situation, the first one who first 'turn their car off the road' will let the opposite party prevails, but if no one is willing to back-off, they will crash... Now i think it maybe a wise strategy for them not to back-off, but only hoping that the government will back-off (think everyone is hoping that now)...
I always had this conspiracy theory (oh! me a big believer in this) in my mind tat the PRC govt is tryin to delay this universal suffrage stuff as latest as possible, sth like in the year 2046 (haaa sounds like the Wong Kar-wai movie), why 2046? coz by the time 2047, it's 50 yrs after handover of HKSAR, and then the PRC govt will hv the say on HK (after the 50 years remained unchaged promise by Deng Xiao-pin), and HK may by the time announced cancellation of universal suffrage!! geez, wat a fool to HK ppl! so we must fight by now n no more delay to HK citizen's wish to universal suffrage!!!
Just on another side of the channel, Taiwan is hving their local election on provincial leaders (wat a mockery to HK! at abt the same day!) n they r setting an excellent sample on wats called 'election by the ppl'... they can vote out the ruling PPP (People's Progessive Party) and select the GMD ... btw, it's always exciting to read w/ all those election news w those interactive charts! me realli a political freak.... eerrrrggghhhh =P
